Kalayat Ancient Brick Temple Complex

The Kalayat Ancient Brick Temple Complex is a historically significant temple site dating back to the 8th century CE, built during the Gurjara-Pratihara period. Known for its unique construction using finely crafted red bricks without modern cement, it stands as one of the oldest surviving brick temple complexes in North India. Originally designed in the Panchayatan style with five temples, only two structures remain today, showcasing intricate carvings and a traditional shikhara (tower). The complex is primarily dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located near the sacred Kapil Muni Tirth, adding to its spiritual importance. Recognized as a Monument of National Importance, it reflects the rich cultural and architectural heritage of ancient India.
